Tourism programme

A comprehensive programme that places visitors and host communities at its centre and turns religious tourism into a driver of territorial development.

Lines of action

From destination to community

The programme is structured around nine lines that the Roundtable agrees, prioritises and evaluates each year, in coordination with the territorial roundtables and technical committees.

Religious tourism routes and corridors

Design and consolidation of routes linking shrines, churches, heritage and landscape in the five priority corridors, with products tailored to pilgrims, believers, cultural tourists and families.

  • Itineraries by corridor
  • Signage and connectivity between destinations

National Network of Shrines and destinations of faith

Common visitor hospitality standards (information, opening hours, basic services and assistance) that respect liturgical life and enhance the experience at each destination.

  • Hospitality manual
  • Quality label

Religious Tourism Observatory

Harmonised measurement of flows, visitor profile, spending and impact on the territories, to guide public and private decisions with comparable data.

  • Common counts and surveys
  • Annual report

Management of major seasons

Joint planning of Holy Week, Christmas and patron saint festivities: mobility, safety, health, sanitation and management of public space.

  • Seasonal plans by corridor
  • Incident log

Religious and cultural heritage

Conservation and enhancement of churches, sacred art, traditions and intangible heritage, in coordination with the ecclesiastical and cultural authorities.

  • Inventory of visitable assets
  • Heritage interpretation

Training of hosts

Training of guides, shrine staff, operators and communities in hospitality, interpretation of religious heritage, languages and serving diverse audiences.

  • Programmes with SENA and universities
  • Certified local guides

Local development and community entrepreneurship

Boosting the economy of destinations through organised local trade, crafts, traditional cuisine and community enterprises linked to visitors.

  • Value chains
  • Well-organised fairs and markets

Accessibility, safety and visitor well-being

Destinations accessible to older people and people with disabilities, safety and health protocols, and visitor assistance in coordination with the Tourism Police.

  • Accessible routes
  • Information and assistance points

Responsible promotion and international cooperation

Communication that respects the religious meaning of places, and partnerships with ProColombia, networks and international partners to position Colombia as a religious tourism destination.

  • Coordinated campaigns
  • Presence at international fairs and networks
Implementation
